We had this in South Africa - the spoofing of text messages/sms for fraudulent activity has spiked a year later.

Spoofing of messages (text, email) from courier/post is already an endemic problem in the UK.

The mobile phone networks are working to improve spam filtering (and also filtering of fraudulent calls)
