Ebay smells blood in the water with TheRealReal. Why else would they be doing this?
They have so much free cash to be able to take some risks even in a segment that people refuse to associate with ebay.
Provenance? Counterfeit detection?
I guess that remains to be seen! eBay does have authentication experts, but hard to be expert at everything.
Has eBay not done this a few times? How does this shop move the needle for them? If this was in multiple cities I would be more interested.
