Argos to close stores in Republic of Ireland

Argos is a UK business, bought a few years ago by Sainsbury’s supermarket, which a UK centric supply chain. The administrative challenges of shipping from UK to Ireland post BrExit likely an influencing factor.

Argos always been very omnichannel focused (the customer experience in store where you are served over a counter after requesting your purchases via a terminal and paying is well optimised for omnichannel)

A number of standalone stores were downsized and rolled into nearby Sainsbury’s locations after the takeover, however Sainsbury’s has no grocery stores in the Republic to achieve that sort of cost sharing.
