Aldi UK scrapping online delivery service for “specialbuys”, wine

To focus efforts on store number growth.

Aldi also used to have a partnership with Deliveroo but that has also ceased.

Logistics is hard for both e-commerce and retailers and in low margin sectors its even tougher.

The last mile is the most expensive part of the supply chain journey. Why did Aldi ever need a wine delivery service in the first place?

At least GoPuff bought BevMo.

Aldi UK’s selection of wines always has some stars at great prices (against strong competition), and delivering wine (using a normal parcel delivery service-2-3 days or next day) is well established in the UK as a model (parcel needs to be signed for, but no other restrictions).

So you can see the obvious attraction to offer it via ecommerce shipped from a warehouse. It wasn’t ever a same day offer from a local store.
